As one of Turkey’s fastest growing food retail chains, ŞOK Marketler Tic. A.Ş. disclosed its financial results for the first quarter of 2020 to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP). According to the statement, ŞOK Marketler increased its net sales by 33.1 percent to reach TL 4.7 billion. The company also continued its investments with 221 new stores in the first quarter of 2020. Raising the total number of stores to 7,436 and of employees to 32,037, ŞOK Marketler made TL 5.3 million net profit in the first quarter.
Commenting on the financial results of the first quarter of 2020, ŞOK Marketler CEO Uğur Demirel said: “We had approximately 30 thousand employees by the end of last year. In the first three months of 2020 we provided additional employment for 2,299 people. Now, we are a big family with more than 32 thousand members. Our goal is to recruit a total of 5,000 employees throughout 2020. We are content with the results of the first quarter that we achieved thanks to our robust financial structure and customer-oriented business strategy.”
Stating that the company took all hygiene precautions to protect both its employees and the society from the COVID-19 pandemic and to fulfill the responsibility of continuing services, Uğur Demirel added: “To protect the health of our employees who serve the society, we take every measure as required by the statements and directives by the World Health Organization and the Turkish Ministry of Health. We took serious measures since Day 1 and we continue to implement them. Taking the opportunity, I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks to all ŞOK Marketler employees, as well as to all retail workforce, manufacturers, and stakeholders in the supply chain for their selfless efforts.”
“We continue uninterrupted services by free home delivery via Şok in Pocket”
Underlining that social distancing and staying at home are vital, Uğur Demirel said: “Therefore, we rapidly launched our home delivery service CepteŞok (Şok in Pocket) in March. This service first and foremost aims to reach all citizens above the age of 65 as they must stay at home. We deliver the products they need without any extra delivery fee and with the same prices as on the shelves. We also try to meet the society’s needs through ‘Money Transfer’ and ‘Invoice Payment’ services at all ŞOK stores, since the banks and Postal Services can only serve in a limited system. I hope as a society we will get over these difficult times in unity by continuing to abide by the measures.”
