Polinas, the creator of many firsts in the packaging industry of Turkey, has opened a new chapter in the fight against the pandemic with its silver-ion protective film that has been proven to kill the COVID-19 virus with a success rate of 99.2 percent.
Operating within Yıldız Holding, Polinas manufactured a silver-ion protective film that has been proven to kill the COVID-19 virus with a success rate of 99.2 percent. The film registered under the name ““BOPP AB1F1/30µ” contains silver-ion, which has been known to fight against bacteria and viruses for centuries, and is considered to be a major development in terms of fighting the pandemic. With a protective quality against bacteria and viruses, the film was previously offered by Polinas to the packaging industry. This film has recently been tested at the Antimicrobial R&D and Biocidal Analysis Center in Ankara, which also holds COVID-19 tests. According to laboratory results, the protective film kills COVID-19 virus with a rate of 71.8 percent by the end of the first 5 minutes, 90 percent by the end of 2 hours, and 99.2 percent by the end of 24 hours.
Mr. Önaldı: “The film can be used in many areas to fight against the pandemic
Polinas CEO Faik Önaldı said this protective film can be used in many industries, mainly in healthcare and food, now that its effectiveness against bacteria and viruses has been proven in the laboratory environment. Mr. Önaldı added the following: “Our R&D teams took action immediately after the outbreak to evaluate the impact of our antibacterial films on COVID-19. We applied to the Antimicrobial R&D and Biocidal Analysis Center in Ankara, which also holds COVID-19 tests, and reached positive results after the Center’s evaluation. This protective film will have a wide area of usage against the pandemic – from protective gloves to food packaging and catering equipment. Our Anti-COVID-19 film will act as a protective layer on packages. Most importantly, if it is manufactured as additional gloves to wear upon gloves used by healthcare professionals, these heroes will be effectively protected against the virus. I believe that we will have a new frontier in the fight against the pandemic thanks to this new film.”
Established in 1982 in Manisa as Turkey’s first BOPP (biaxially-oriented polypropylene) film manufacturer, Polinas is currently the leader of its industry in Turkey. In the 38 years since its establishment, Polinas continued its growth through constant investments in BOPP. In 2011, Polinas acquired Italy’s leading BOPET (biaxially-oriented polyethylene terephthalate) film manufacturer Nuroll SpA and invested in a different film category. The company also established a new BOPET film factory in 2012 in Manisa. In addition, through sub-processing its films manufactured with high-technology machinery, Polinas started to offer flexible packaging materials such as metallized films, holographic films, safety holograms, coated barrier films, and tear tapes. Becoming one of the biggest manufacturers in Turkey in terms of total capacity, Polinas has also been listed in the top 5 in Europe. Transferring its Rotopaş factory manufacturing Sera branded products from İstanbul to Manisa in 2016, Polinas started to manufacture “Sera” consumer products including stretch films, garbage bags, freezing bags, aluminum foils, and baking paper. The company continues its operations with the aim of becoming the most preferred supplier in flexible packaging and food protection-kitchen solutions categories and being among the top 10 companies in the global industry.
