Hosting a special exhibition every Ramadan to reveal the spiritual climate of this holy month, Yıldız Holding this year holds “The Farewell Sermons of the Prophet” calligraphy and illumination exhibition digitally in cooperation with Türkiye Milli Kültür Vakfı (TMKV - The Turkish Foundation of National Culture).
Welcoming every Ramadan with traditional art exhibitions, Yıldız Holding has opened the digital “The Farewell Sermons of the Prophet” exhibition comprising the most select calligraphy works of Türkiye Milli Kültür Vakfı (TMKV). Certain sections of “The Farewell Sermons” have been transformed into exclusive works of art by 37 calligraphers and 26 illuminators. These works of art can be seen at vedahaccihutbeleri.org with a 360-degree virtual tour, as well as at the social media accounts of Yıldız Holding and TMKV.
Stating that Yıldız Holding once again presents a very special collection of artworks that perfectly suit the spiritual climate of Ramadan, Yıldız Holding Chairman Ali Ülker said: “We attach great importance to sharing both modern works of art and the most precious examples of traditional arts that leave a mark on our collective memory. We have so far hosted many valuable exhibitions. We continue this tradition with ‘The Farewell Sermons of the Prophet’ calligraphy and illumination exhibition within the collection of TMKV. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s exhibition is held digitally. Prominent artists have produced calligraphy and illumination works for select texts of The Farewell Sermons that the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) gave during his one and only pilgrimage to underline the universal nature of human rights. I believe that these works of art will help us better understand the The Farewell Sermons that guide all humanity by denying superiority of any race, color or class and gives a historic example of equality. Taking the opportunity, I hope the Grace, Blessing and Mercy of the month of Ramadan and the Eid will mark the start of days that we can come together again in good health.”
These works are witnesses to the cultural values of the time:
Stating that the Farewell Sermons of the Prophet are among the last statements of Prophet Muhammed to the humanity and these universal messages have been decorated with calligraphy and illumination to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the foundation, TMKV Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Salih Tuğ said: “It is a very important effort to have approximately 50 calligraphed and illuminated versions of the Farewell Sermons by artists representing our time; to introduce this culture to both Turkish and international art circles; and to deliver the messages of these sacred statements. Hadith expert Assoc. Prof. Halit Özkan worked for more than a year to select the texts to be used in these works among major Farewell Sermon texts and to translate them into Turkish. Then the texts were classified. Prof. Uğur Derman, Prof. Çiçek Derman and calligraph Ali Toy directed the process of selecting what calligraphy types are to be used, what their dimensions and colors should be, and which calligraphy and illumination artists will be included in the project. With the contribution of the masters of calligraphy and illumination, these works have become witnesses to the cultural values of the time.”
Yıldız Holding has so far hosted many traditional art collections in prominent galleries of İstanbul and Yıldız Holding Exhibition Hall. These collections include Hilye-i Serifes, The Masterpieces of Calligraphy; Manuscripts of the Quran in its 1400th year; Love for Prophet Muhammad; Beautiful Names of Allah and Beautiful Names of Muhammad; and Ekrem Hakkı Ayverdi’s Reed Pen Beauties; and Forty Hadith.
